At the time of writing (September 2026) a single journey costs €3.20, a 24-hour ticket €10.20 and a 7-day ticket €28.90.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2>How does the Vienna U-Bahn work?\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>The U-Bahn is the backbone of Vienna public transport. It has five lines: \u003Cstrong>U1\u003C\u002Fstrong> (red), \u003Cstrong>U2\u003C\u002Fstrong> (purple), \u003Cstrong>U3\u003C\u002Fstrong> (orange), \u003Cstrong>U4\u003C\u002Fstrong> (green) and \u003Cstrong>U6\u003C\u002Fstrong> (brown). A sixth line, the U5, is under construction. The lines cross at central hubs such as Karlsplatz, Stephansplatz and Westbahnhof, so most trips across the city need one change at most.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>On Friday and Saturday nights and on nights before public holidays the U-Bahn runs all night. On other nights night buses take over. Tram lines carry numbers (for example 1, 2, 18, 43 or 71) or letters (D and O). The NightLine network has more than 30 night bus lines, all starting with the letter N (for example N6, N25 or N66).
