Vienna Airport to the city: S7, CAT, Railjet and buses

The S7 suburban train leaves from the station below the arrivals hall and runs to Wien Mitte (Landstraße), where you can change to U3 and U4, and on to Praterstern (U1 and U2). The ride to Wien Mitte takes about 25 minutes, and trains run roughly every half hour from early morning until close to midnight.

It is the cheapest option by rail. Note that the airport lies outside Vienna's city fare zone: an ordinary Vienna single ticket or pass covers only the part within the city, so you need either a ticket from the airport to Vienna or an extension ticket for the outer zone. Both are sold at the machines in the airport station and in the apps.

The CAT runs non-stop between the airport and Wien Mitte in about 16 minutes, usually every half hour. It is a separate private service with its own, higher fares; Vienna public transport tickets and the KlimaTicket are not valid on it.

It uses the same platforms as the S7 at both ends, so check the departure screens to see which train leaves next. From Wien Mitte, the U3 and U4 continue into the city.

Railjet and other ÖBB trains run directly from the airport to Wien Hauptbahnhof, Vienna's main station, in about 15 minutes, and many continue to Linz, Salzburg, Graz and beyond. Between the airport and the Hauptbahnhof they can be used with the same public transport ticket as the S7.

This is the most convenient choice if you are staying near the Hauptbahnhof or the Belvedere, or travelling straight on to another Austrian city.

The Vienna Airport Lines coaches leave from the bus terminal in front of the arrivals hall for several points in the city, including Westbahnhof via the Hauptbahnhof, Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz at the edge of the old town, Karlsplatz, Praterstern and Kagran in the north-east. They are useful if your hotel is near one of these stops or you have a lot of luggage.
