The castle stands in the old town near the harbour. According to tradition, Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre here in 1191. The building you see today was rebuilt several times, most recently under Ottoman rule.
Inside is the Cyprus Medieval Museum, and the roof gives a view over the old town. The streets around the castle are full of restaurants, and the marina and the old port are a few minutes away.
