Buying from the driver
On city and district buses the driver sells single tickets, and in most districts also night and day tickets. Payment is in cash only; in the Famagusta district (Ayia Napa, Paralimni, Protaras) drivers accept notes up to €20 and no bank cards. Have small change ready.
On Intercity buses between the cities the driver also sells one-way tickets, in cash.
The Motion card
Motion is the smart card used on buses across Cyprus. There is a personalised card (with your photo and details) and an anonymous one. Plastic cards and passes are sold at the operators’ sales offices, and in Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol a card can be topped up online.
If you stay longer or travel every day, a multi-day or monthly pass on the card usually costs much less than buying single tickets.
Discounts and free travel
Students, young people aged 6–18 and several other groups pay half fare, and some passengers travel free — but only with a personalised Motion card. Young children travel free.

Fares differ between districts and change from time to time. The “Tickets & fares” page of each city lists the current prices, with the official source and the date they were checked.
