What it is
The Tauranga Art Gallery Trust bought the former Bank of New Zealand building on the corner of Willow and Wharf Streets in 1999. After a refurbishment and extension, the gallery was opened by Prime Minister Helen Clark on 20 October 2007.
It presents changing exhibitions of historical and contemporary art, with work by New Zealand and international artists, alongside its own collection and education programmes. The gallery sits in the compact city centre, a short walk from the waterfront on The Strand.
