La Tontouta, New Caledonia's international airport, lies outside the Tanéo city bus network. Here is what public options exist between the airport and Grand Nouméa, and what changed when domestic flights moved there in 2026.
Where the airport is
Nouméa-La Tontouta International Airport is the main airport of New Caledonia. It is in the commune of Païta, well north-west of the city and beyond the end of the Tanéo network: the furthest Tanéo stops, at Beauvallon on line L7 in Païta, are still about 18 km from the terminal in a straight line. No Tanéo bus line serves the airport.
Tontouta Express
When Air Calédonie moved its activities from Magenta to La Tontouta, the Government of New Caledonia set up a shuttle service, Tontouta Express (TEX), from 2 March 2026. According to the government's announcement, the fare is 500 F per person per trip and the shuttles are timed to cover all Air Calédonie domestic flights. It has four stops: Nouméa – CHT, Dumbéa (Koutio), Païta (Arène du Sud) and the Tontouta terminal.
In Koutio, Dumbéa Centre is the main Tanéo hub of the area, where Néobus line L1 and several other lines meet. Check the current timetable before you travel, as it follows the flight schedule.
Tickets and connections
Tontouta Express is not part of the Tanéo network, and its fare is paid separately. Once you are in Grand Nouméa, continue with Tanéo: from Dumbéa Centre, Néobus line L1 runs to Place Moselle in central Nouméa, and lines L7 and L8 also go to the city centre. Remember that Tanéo sells no tickets on board, so buy a Pass Journée, a Pass Liberté or a Ticket Secours at a ticket machine or shop first.
Outside the shuttle, the airport is served by taxis and private shuttle operators, which are not part of the public network.
