Perth’s public transport network combines suburban trains, a large bus network and a ferry across the Swan River. Our timetables list more than 300 bus routes, 8 suburban train lines and the ferry from Elizabeth Quay to South Perth. The fares below have applied since 1 January 2026 and were checked on 24 October 2026.
Which train lines run in Perth?
Eight lines radiate from the city centre: Fremantle to the port city, Midland to the east, Armadale to the south-east (now running to Byford), Thornlie-Cockburn, Mandurah along the Kwinana Freeway, Yanchep to the north, Ellenbrook to the north-east, and the Airport line to the airport and High Wycombe. A regional train also runs from East Perth to Northam. See them all in the Perth timetables.
Where are the main bus hubs?
Most city buses start at the Perth Busport, the busiest stop in our data. In the suburbs, train stations double as bus interchanges, for example Midland and Joondalup. Buses inside the free travel zone in the city centre cost nothing. Use the Perth stops page to find your stop.
Is there a ferry?
Yes. A ferry crosses the Swan River between Elizabeth Quay in the city and Mends Street Jetty in South Perth, a trip of about 10 minutes. It uses the same fares as buses and trains.
How much does a trip cost?
At the time of writing a short ride of up to 3.2 km (2 sections) costs A$2.40 and a fare for the whole network costs A$3.50, valid for 3 hours on buses, trains and the ferry. These are the cash and contactless prices; all travel on one day is capped at A$7.00.
- Smart card: Perth’s smart card gives 10% off, or 20% off when registered with automatic top-up.
- Contactless: tap a credit or debit card or phone at the standard price. Concession fares need a concession smart card.
- Family day ticket: A$7.00 for up to 7 people, at most two of them paying full fare, at weekends, on public holidays and at set times on weekdays.
When is travel free?
Every Sunday, bus, train and ferry trips are free when you tag on and off with the smart card or a contactless card (not on late-night services after midnight on Saturday). Route 292 between Airport Terminals 3/4 and Redcliffe Station is free, and school students travel to and from school free with a student card. Details are on the Perth tickets page.
