Innsbruck Public Transport: Trams, Buses and Tickets

In short

  • IVB runs the trams and city buses in Innsbruck; buses are mostly marked with letters.
  • A single ticket costs €3.30 and a 24-hour ticket €7.30 at the time of writing.
  • Online single tickets are valid for 90 minutes, paper tickets for 45 minutes.
  • Up to four children under 6 travel free with an accompanying person.

Innsbruck is compact, and its trams and buses reach almost every corner of the city and the nearby villages. Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) runs the network, and one ticket covers trams and buses within the city. At the time of writing (September 2026) a single ticket costs €3.30 and a 24-hour ticket €7.30.

Which trams run in Innsbruck?

Our Innsbruck timetables list the tram lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 and the Stubaitalbahn (STB), which runs from the city into the Stubai Valley. The city lines link the centre with the main districts, and several of them stop close to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, the busiest station in our Austrian intercity data.

Open any line in the Innsbruck timetables to see its stops and departures, or check the whole network on the Innsbruck map.

How do buses work in Innsbruck?

Innsbruck city buses are marked with letters rather than numbers. Our data includes lines such as A, C, D, F, J, K, M, R, T and W, plus regional lines with three-digit numbers like 501, 502 and 504. Buses fill the gaps between the tram lines and take you up to the residential areas on the slopes around the city.

Trams and buses share many stops, so changing is simple. The Innsbruck stops page lists every stop with the lines that serve it.

Are there night buses in Innsbruck?

Yes. Our timetables include five night lines: N1, N2, N3, N7 and N8. They take over after the regular service ends. See their departures on the Innsbruck night buses page. For trips to the surrounding region, the S-Bahn lines S3, S4 and S6 are also in our Innsbruck timetables.

How much is a bus or tram ticket in Innsbruck?

The fares below are valid from 1 April 2026 and were correct at the time of writing (September 2026):

  • Single ticket (Einzelticket Innsbruck): €3.30, one trip with any changes needed to reach your destination. Paper tickets are valid for 45 minutes, online tickets for 90 minutes. Reduced €2.20.
  • 8-trip ticket (8-Fahrtenticket): €19.10, reduced €15.40.
  • 24-hour ticket (24h-Ticket): €7.30, reduced €5.10. The 2Plus version for two adults and three children costs €10.80.
  • Weekly ticket (Wochenticket): €28.40.
  • Monthly ticket (Monatsticket): €71.80.
  • Semester ticket for students under 27: €166.70, rising to €176.70 from autumn 2026.

The reduced fare applies to children from 6, young people under 20, pupils, apprentices, people with disabilities and seniors from 65. Paper tickets are validated on board. Online tickets must be activated before boarding and are not transferable. The easiest habit is to activate your online ticket while you wait at the stop, so you are never on board without a valid ticket when the tram or bus arrives.

Is there an annual ticket?

The KlimaTicket Innsbruck covers the city for a year and costs €475.20. For the whole of Tyrol, the KlimaTicket Tirol costs €625.60; the U26, Senior 65+ and Spezial versions cost €319.00 and Senior 75+ €159.50. KlimaTicket Tirol Regionen costs €485.30.

Where can I buy tickets and do children travel free?

Tickets are sold in the IVB ticket shop and app, at ticket machines at stops, at sales points and at the IVB customer centre on Stainerstraße 2. Up to four children under 6 travel free with an accompanying person; each further child under 6 pays the reduced fare. With the EuregioFamilyPass one adult pays, and the second adult and the family's children under 15 travel free. All fares are on our Innsbruck tickets page.

Which Innsbruck ticket should I buy?

For a single trip, buy the ticket online if you can: it costs the same €3.30 as the paper ticket but is valid for 90 minutes instead of 45. If you ride a few times a week, the 8-trip ticket at €19.10 brings the price per trip down to under €2.40. The 24-hour ticket at €7.30 pays off from the third ride of the day, since three single tickets cost €9.90. For four days or more, the weekly ticket at €28.40 is cheaper than four 24-hour tickets (€29.20). Travelling as a family? The 2Plus 24-hour ticket at €10.80 covers two adults and three children. Residents should compare the monthly ticket at €71.80 with the KlimaTicket Innsbruck at €475.20 a year.
