What it is
The Pfänderbahn has carried passengers from the edge of the old town to the summit area at about 1,020 metres since 1927, in a ride of around six minutes. From the top the view takes in the whole of Lake Constance and some 240 Alpine peaks in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
Near the mountain station, the Alpenwildpark keeps ibex, deer, wild boar and marmots and is free to walk through, and the Adlerwarte stages flight demonstrations with eagles and other birds of prey in the season. Walking trails lead back down to Bregenz or on to Lochau.
Getting there by bus
Bus 101 stops at Pfänderbahn, about 70 metres from the valley station. From Bregenz Bahnhof it is also a walk of around ten minutes through the upper town streets.
The Oberstadt with the Martinsturm is only a few minutes from the valley station.
