What it is
The Grünbergseilbahn, rebuilt in 2014, climbs from the east side of the Traunsee to the top station at about 1,000 metres in a few minutes. At the top, the Baumwipfelpfad Salzkammergut leads through the tree crowns to a tall viewing tower with a panorama over the lake, the Traunstein and, on clear days, the Dachstein. There is a restaurant and a children's play area, and in winter a toboggan run.
Hiking paths lead on to the Laudachsee, a small mountain lake below the Traunstein.
Getting there by bus
Lines 511 and 516 stop at Grünbergseilbahn, about 90 metres from the valley station, and line 161 stops at Schloss Weyer nearby. From the Rathausplatz, the valley station is also a pleasant walk of around 15 minutes across the Traun bridge and along the lake.
The cable car operates in the summer and winter seasons.
