What it is
The Seeschloss, the castle on the island, goes back to the Middle Ages and was rebuilt after a fire in the 17th century; its courtyard with arcades, the chapel and the tower with its onion dome are reached over a wooden bridge of about 120 metres. The Landschloss on the shore, set in a park, is used as a forestry training centre. Both became widely known through the television series Schlosshotel Orth.
The Seeschloss is used for weddings and events, and its courtyard can be visited; the lakeside path around the Toscana peninsula nearby is a pleasant walk.
Getting there by bus
Bus 513 stops at Yachtclub and Franz-Reisenbichler-Straße, both about 350–400 metres from the Landschloss, and line 161 stops at Kuferzeile. From the town centre it is a walk of around 20 minutes along the Traunsee shore.
In summer the lake steamers also call at the Schloss Ort landing stage.
