What it is
The building, designed by Hans Hollein, opened in 2002 with a curving roof over its forecourt. The Haus für Natur presents the landscapes of Lower Austria from the Danube meadows to the Alps, with aquariums and terrariums of native fish, reptiles and amphibians, and an outdoor area. Since 2017 the Haus der Geschichte has told the history of Lower Austria and Central Europe from prehistory to the present in a large permanent exhibition.
The museum is well suited to families, with many hands-on stations for children.
Getting there by bus
The Landhaus Klangturm stop (city lines 2 and 9 and regional buses 103 and 105) is about 100 metres from the entrance, and Landhaus Süd is close by. From the Hauptbahnhof, lines 2 and 9 take only a few minutes.
The Klangturm and the Traisen promenade are right next to the museum.
