What it is
The church was consecrated in 1279, shortly after the town was founded by the Babenberg dukes, and the Gothic choir was added in the 14th century. It was the cathedral of a diocese from 1469 until 1785, when the see moved to St. Pölten, and it is still known as the Dom. The two west towers were rebuilt at the end of the 19th century after they had become unstable. Inside, the apostle statues on the pillars date from the late 15th century.
The Domplatz around the church, with the former provost's house and old town houses, is one of the quietest corners of the centre.
Getting there by bus
The J.-v.-Nepomuk-Platz stop, about 170 metres from the cathedral, is served by most city lines, and Hauptplatz and Babenbergerring are also within about 250 metres. Wiener Neustadt Hauptbahnhof is about ten minutes' walk to the west.
The Hauptplatz is just a few steps away.
