What it is
The gardens spread around a series of lakes with tropical plantings, rose gardens, walking paths and abundant birdlife. Within them stands the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, which tells the story of Bert Hinkler, born in Bundaberg, who made the first solo flight from England to Australia in 1928; his former house, moved here from Southampton in England, stands alongside.
The grounds also include the Bundaberg and District Historical Museum and Fairymead House, a former sugar planter’s homestead that presents the history of the sugar industry.
Getting there by bus
Routes 607 and 621 stop at Mount Perry Rd at Botanic Gardens, right by the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and a few minutes on foot from the lakes. Route 621 also has a hail ’n’ ride section near Young St nearby.
Both routes connect with the city centre across the Burnett River.
