What it is
The gardens were established in 1851 and are among the oldest regional botanic gardens in Victoria. Old trees, a fernery, a conservatory and formal beds date from the 19th century, while the 21st Century Garden at the entrance, opened in 2002, shows plants suited to a drier climate, many of them Australian.
The gardens are surrounded by the open parkland of Eastern Park, and paths lead down to Eastern Beach and the waterfront.
Getting there by bus
Bus 60 stops at Geelong Botanic Gardens/Ryrie St and bus 30 at Geelong Botanic Gardens/Normanby St and Geelong Botanic Gardens/Garden St, each a short walk through Eastern Park to the garden entrance.
Both routes connect with the Moorabool Street bus stops in the city centre.
