What it is
Geelong grew rich as a wool port, and the museum opened in 1988 in a wool store built in 1872 on Moorabool Street. Exhibits follow wool from sheep stations and shearing sheds to the mills, the wool sales and the clothes and carpets made from it.
Working textile machines, including historic looms, are demonstrated in the galleries, and the museum also shows changing exhibitions on textiles and design.
