What it is
City Park was laid out in the 19th century and keeps much of its Victorian character, with shady avenues, formal flower beds, a fountain and the John Hart Conservatory, where seasonal displays are grown under glass. A small enclosure of Japanese macaques, linked to the city's sister-city relationship with Ikeda in Japan, is a favourite with children.
The Albert Hall, a grand public hall from 1891, stands on the park's edge, and there are playgrounds and lawns for a break between sights.
Getting there by bus
Several stops sit right at the park. City Park, Brisbane St is served by routes 130, 131 and 140, and City Park, Cimitiere St by routes 120 and 121, each about 100 metres from the gates.
The park is also an easy walk of five to ten minutes from the Launceston Interchange and the shopping streets around Brisbane Street Mall.
