What it is
QVMAG opened in 1891 and is one of the largest regional museums in Australia. The original building at Royal Park houses the art gallery, with colonial and contemporary Tasmanian art and decorative arts.
The museum collections moved to the Inveresk Railway Workshops, a large complex where trains were built and repaired for more than a century. Here you can see natural history, Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, the history of the railway workshops – including the original blacksmith shop – and a planetarium.
