What it is
The museum opened in 2022 as the new home of the former Rockhampton Art Gallery. Its collection is especially strong in Australian painting of the 1970s, bought in that decade with civic support, and also includes works by Central Queensland and First Nations artists.
The building, with large windows facing the Fitzroy River, hosts changing exhibitions, talks and family programmes alongside displays from the collection.
Getting there by bus
Kern Arcade and Denham St at Bolsover Street, served by routes 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407 and 410, are about four to five minutes on foot from the museum. Fitzroy Street at East Street, on most of the same routes, is also close.
The Customs House and the riverside parkland are right next door, so the two sights combine easily.
