What it is
The Hunts were dealers and collectors with an eye for the unusual, and the museum keeps their approach: drawers you can open, medieval crucifixes next to Irish Bronze Age gold, a coin thought to be one of the thirty pieces of silver, and paintings by Yeats, Renoir and Picasso. The riverside garden and café are a pleasant stop.
Guided tours run most days and are the best way to find the oddities.
Getting there by bus
The museum is on Rutland Street at the north end of Patrick Street, five minutes' walk from the city centre and the bus and railway station. City buses stop on Patrick Street and Rutland Street outside (Patrick Street stop).
The medieval quarter and King John's Castle are ten minutes further across the bridge.
