Nicosia has a dense city bus network run by Cyprus Public Transport (CPT). A single trip costs €2.70 in cash or €2.00 with a Motion card, and most central lines meet at Solomos Square. This guide covers the lines, fares, cards and the quickest way to find the right stop.
Who runs the buses in Nicosia?
City buses in Nicosia (and in Larnaca) are operated by CPT. There is no metro or tram, so the bus is the only public transport inside the city. Our timetable lists more than 70 bus lines in the Nicosia area plus 4 night lines. You can browse all of them on the Nicosia bus timetables page.
Two places work as the main hubs:
- Solomos Square (Dionysios Solomos Square) in the centre. Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12 and 13 all run into Solomos Square, and it is also the busiest intercity stop in our data.
- Makario Stadium Bus Station, where lines 1, 13, 16, 41 and 42 start.
Some of the busiest lines in our timetable are line 1 (Makario Stadium – Solomos Square), line 2 (Tamasos Bus Station – Solomos Square), line 3 (Alampra Bus Station – Solomos Square), line 4 (Nicosia General Hospital – Solomos Square), lines 41 and 42 to the University of Cyprus and line 16 to Nicosia Mall.
How much is a bus ticket in Nicosia?
At the time of writing (September 2026), CPT lists these fares:
- Single, paper ticket: €2.70, one journey, cash only from the driver.
- Single with a Motion card: €2.00, valid 60 minutes with up to 2 transfers. With the 50% discount it is €1.00.
- Night single (21:00–04:00): €4.70 in cash, €3.50 with a Motion card, €1.75 with the discount card.
- Daily ticket for all cities: €20.00 (discounted €10.00), valid on urban buses in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Famagusta.
- 7 days: €46.80 on an anonymous card, €33.40 on a personalised card, €16.70 with the 50% discount.
- 30 days: €93.60 anonymous, €66.90 personalised, €33.40 with the discount. A 365-day pass costs €668.50 (personalised card only).

What is the Motion card and is it worth it?
Motion is the electronic card used on buses in Cyprus. A plastic card, anonymous or personalised, costs a one-off €5.00. You load money on it and each ride costs €2.00 instead of €2.70. Charges are capped: two transfers within 60 minutes of the first validation still cost only €2.00.
If you are in Nicosia for a few days, the paper Motion cards may suit you better:
- 4 trips for €8.70; after the 4th trip the rest of that service day is free.
- 2 days for €17.40, 3 days for €26.10 and 7 days for €46.80.
Season passes must be activated within 6 months of purchase.
Who travels free or at half price?
Children under 6, soldiers, wheelchair users, blind people and their escorts, European Disability Card holders, low-income pensioners with the ministry card and families receiving public assistance travel free. University students (student ID or European Youth Card), young people aged 6–18, school pupils and social card holders pay 50%. Both need a personalised Motion card, and free passes are renewed every year.
Where can I buy bus tickets in Nicosia?
The driver sells only single, rural single and night tickets, and only for cash, so keep coins or small notes with you. Motion cards and passes are sold at CPT sales offices, and cards can be topped up online through JCC Smart or the Motion app. Folding bicycles travel free; a bicycle ticket costs €2.70 (€4.70 at night).
Are there night buses in Nicosia?

How do I find my bus stop in Nicosia?
Stop names in Nicosia usually combine the main road and the nearest cross street, for example “Archiep. Makariou III Ave. – Dimofontos” or “Lemesou Ave. – Ellispontou”. If you know the street, search for it on the stops page and you will see every line that stops there with its next departures. If you only know the area, open the Nicosia bus map and tap the nearest stop.
