What it is
A chalet opened on Bob's Peak in 1964, and the gondola itself was officially opened on 17 November 1967. It has since become one of Queenstown's best-known viewpoints: from the top terminal, about 450 metres above the lake, the view takes in the town, Queenstown Bay, Cecil and Walter Peaks across the water and the jagged line of The Remarkables.
The summit complex has a restaurant and café, viewing decks and the luge, opened in 1998, with two tracks winding down the hillside. Walking and mountain bike trails also run on the slopes of Bob's Peak. New gondola cabins and a new base terminal opened in 2023 as part of a larger redevelopment of the site.
