What it is
The Rotes Haus is a classic Rhine valley house of the 17th century, a timber building with a shingled facade traditionally coloured red with ox blood; it has long been an inn and is the symbol of the town. The parish church of St. Martin across the square was rebuilt in 1839–1840 with a columned portico, and its free-standing Gothic tower is older than the church itself.
The pedestrianised square is the lively heart of Dornbirn, with cafés, shops and a weekly market.
Getting there by bus
The Rathaus stop (lines 177, 181, 202, 203 and SB) is about 140 metres away, and Altes Rathaus and Kulturhaus are nearby. Dornbirn railway station is about ten minutes' walk west of the square.
inatura is a short walk south-west through the Kulturhaus park.
