What it is
The centre grew out of the Ars Electronica festival, held in Linz since 1979, and opened in 1996; the present building with its LED-lit glass shell dates from 2009. Exhibitions deal with artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology and media art, with labs where visitors can try things out, and Deep Space 8K shows high-resolution projections on wall and floor.
Across the river stands the Lentos art museum, which is also illuminated at night, so the two face each other as the landmarks of the Linz riverfront.
Getting there by bus
The Hinsenkampplatz (Donautor) bus stop is right beside the building, and Rudolfstraße, on the tram line across the Nibelungen bridge (trams 1, 2, 3 and the Pöstlingbergbahn 50), is about 200 metres away. From Hauptplatz it is a five-minute walk over the bridge.
The riverside park on the Urfahr bank is used for the Linzer Klangwolke and other open-air events.
