What it is
Known to the local Arrernte people as Untyeyetweleye, Anzac Hill rises just north of the town centre. At the top stands a memorial to Australians who served in war, surrounded by plaques for later conflicts.
From the summit you look south over the grid of the town, the usually dry bed of the Todd River and the red ridge of the MacDonnell Ranges, with Heavitree Gap where road and railway pass through. It is especially popular at sunrise and sunset, when the ranges glow.
Getting there by bus
The nearest stop is Ulpaya Road on route AS101, about 400 metres from the foot of the hill. The Post Office stop in the town centre, used by all town routes (AS100, AS101, AS200, AS300, AS301, AS400, AS401 and AS500), is about 500 metres away.
From the centre, a walking track leads up the hill from the end of Wills Terrace; the climb is short but steep.
