What it is
Todd Mall is the main street of the town centre, closed to traffic and shaded by trees. It is the best place in town to see and buy art from Central Australian Aboriginal communities, with numerous galleries and art centre outlets.
Adelaide House, built in the 1920s as the first hospital in Central Australia and designed by John Flynn, is now a small museum about his work, and the John Flynn Memorial Church stands next to it. The usually dry Todd River, which gave the street its name, runs just to the east.
Getting there by bus
The Post Office stop, about 170 metres away, is served by all town routes – AS100, AS101, AS200, AS300, AS301, AS400, AS401 and AS500. Hartley Street is another stop on the same routes, about 300 metres from the mall.
The Alice Springs Interchange and Terminus, where routes start and finish, are around 450 metres away, so the mall is the natural starting point for exploring the town on foot.
