What it is
The park was founded by the naturalist Eric Worrell in the 1950s and moved to its present bushland site at Somersby in the 1990s. Alongside reptiles, it keeps many native mammals, including kangaroos, koalas, wombats, Tasmanian devils and platypuses.
Keepers at the park milk venom from snakes and funnel-web spiders, which is used to produce antivenom, and talks and shows explain the work. A large concrete dinosaur, known as Ploddy, greets visitors at the entrance.
Getting there by bus
Route 33, between Gosford and Somersby via West Gosford and the industrial estate, stops on Pile Road at 29 Pile Rd and opposite it, about ten minutes' walk from the park entrance, and at Pile Rd at Triennium Rd.
The route starts in Gosford, near the station on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.
