What it is
The museum moved into the nineteenth-century brick workshops of the former Honeysuckle rail yards in 2011. Its galleries cover the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the city's convict beginnings, coal mining and the BHP steelworks, as well as the 1989 earthquake.
A large hands-on science area, Supernova, is popular with families, and the museum hosts temporary exhibitions. The surrounding Honeysuckle precinct has a waterfront promenade with cafés and restaurants.
