What it is
The beach runs for kilometres north and south of the town centre, with a patrolled area in front of the surf club and a grassy foreshore park with picnic spots. A boardwalk follows the dunes and headlands to the rocky point of Point Perry and on to the smaller bays further north.
Mount Coolum, part of Mount Coolum National Park, rises to about 208 metres just south-west of the town; a steep track leads to the summit and its wide views along the coast.
Getting there by bus
Route 620 between Maroochydore and Noosa Heads stops on David Low Way at Coolum Hotel, about 250 metres from the beach, and at Coolum Beach. Route 622, which runs between Maroochydore, the Sunshine Coast Airport, Coolum and Noosa Junction, also stops at Coolum Hotel and on Birtwill St.
The town centre with its cafés lies directly behind the foreshore.
