A Byzantine fort guarded the harbour; it was rebuilt in the Middle Ages, dismantled by the Venetians and rebuilt again by the Ottomans at the end of the 16th century.
The harbour promenade is lined with cafés and fish tavernas, and the Archaeological Park is right next to it.
