What it is
The church stands where the Augustinian abbey of Navan was founded in the twelfth century. Its plain classical exterior hides a bright interior with a coffered ceiling, and the carved figure of Christ by Smyth, better known for his sculptures on the Custom House in Dublin, is regarded as one of the finest pieces of religious carving in Ireland.
It is open during the day and is the parish church for most of the town.
Getting there by bus
St Mary's is on Trimgate Street beside the Solstice Arts Centre, a minute from Market Square. Town buses stop at the Navan Centre and on Kennedy Road, a few minutes' walk.
The Fair Green and the shopping streets are all around it.
