What it is
Maximilian had the ornate oriel added to the residence of the Tyrolean princes to mark the turn of the century and his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza; from its loggia the court watched tournaments and festivities on the square below. The reliefs on the balustrade show the emperor with his two wives, his court jester and Moorish dancers.
Inside the building a small museum tells the story of Maximilian and his time. The Golden Roof closes the view along Herzog-Friedrich-Straße, the arcaded main street of the old town.
Getting there by bus
The old town is pedestrianised; the nearest stops are Maria-Theresien-Straße (trams 1, 2, 3 and 6, the Stubaitalbahn and buses A, C, J, K and M) and Marktplatz by the Inn (buses A, J, K and W), each about 200 metres away. The Sightseer tourist buses stop at Treffpunkt Museum nearby.
The Hofburg, the Hofkirche and the cathedral are all within a few minutes' walk.
