What it is
The gallery was designed by the Vorarlberg architects Marte.Marte; its shingle-clad body turns as it rises, so that it seems to lean towards the Danube and the old town of Stein. Exhibitions draw on the province's large art collections and range from baroque painting and the Kremser Schmidt to Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and contemporary artists.
It is part of the Kunstmeile Krems, a cluster of museums that also includes the Kunsthalle Krems and the Karikaturmuseum, a museum of caricature and cartoon art.
Getting there by bus
The Stein/Donau Museumsplatz stop, served by lines 1 and 717, is about 60 metres from the entrance, and Göttweigerhofgasse (line 1) is close by. From Krems railway station line 1 takes about ten minutes.
The medieval streets of Stein, with the Minoritenkirche, begin just behind the gallery.
