What it is
The church, dedicated to Our Lady, was built in the 15th and early 16th centuries on the site of an older chapel on the hill, and later passed to the Jesuits and then the Piarists. The bright hall interior has a fine net vault, and several altarpieces are by Martin Johann Schmidt, known as the Kremser Schmidt, the most important baroque painter of the region, who lived and worked in Krems.
A covered stairway, the Piaristenstiege, leads up to the church from the Pfarrplatz below, next to the baroque town parish church of St. Veit.
Getting there by bus
Line 4 stops at Pfarrplatz, about 85 metres away at the foot of the stairs, and at Hoher Markt/Gozzoburg. Dreifaltigkeitsplatz, served by lines 1, 2, 5 and 6, is about five minutes' walk away.
The Gozzoburg, a medieval town palace with Gothic frescoes, is close by on the Hoher Markt.
