What it is
Four galleries cover Carlow from the dolmen builders of Browne's Hill to the 1798 rising, the Barrow navigation, the Irish Sugar factory and the county's sporting heroes. Highlights are the six-metre carved pulpit removed from the cathedral in the 1990s, a fully fitted old chemist's shop from Tullow Street and the county's gallows trapdoor.
The tourist office shares the building.
Getting there by bus
The museum is on College Street next to the cathedral, five minutes' walk from Tullow Street. Buses along Kennedy Avenue stop a few minutes away (Kennedy Avenue stop).
It closes on Sundays outside the summer season.
