What it is
Designed by Edward Parke and John Bowden, the courthouse is one of the finest Greek Revival buildings in Ireland and still sits as a court. The square in front, with its 1898 memorial to the United Irishmen of 1798, is the centre of town life and the venue for markets and the Christmas fair.
The courthouse is not open to visitors, but the portico and the square are best seen in the late afternoon light.
Getting there by bus
Market Square is the stopping point for most buses through the town centre (Dundalk stop), and the bus station on the Long Walk is a five-minute walk east.
St Patrick's Church and the County Museum are on the same square.
