What it is
Palm Cove lies about 25 kilometres north of central Cairns. Williams Esplanade runs right behind the beach under old melaleuca (paperbark) trees and palms, with cafés and resorts on the land side, and the jetty at the northern end is a popular spot for fishing and sunset views towards Double Island.
As on all beaches in tropical Queensland, swim only between the flags at patrolled times, especially during the stinger season when marine stingers can be present.
Getting there by bus
Route 110 (and the late-night 110N) links Palm Cove with Cairns City bus station via the northern beaches. Stops on Veivers Road, such as the hail ’n’ ride section near Williams Esp and Veivers Road at Talpa Close, are a short walk from the beach.
Allow a little under an hour from the city centre.
