What it is
The angular concrete building by Colin Madigan holds Australian art from the colonial period onwards, along with Asian, European and American works, including Jackson Pollock's Blue Poles. The Aboriginal Memorial, a field of 200 painted hollow log coffins, greets visitors in the First Nations galleries.
The Sculpture Garden runs between the gallery and the lake, with works set among native plants, and the gallery is part of the Parliamentary Triangle, next to the High Court of Australia.
