What it is
The building's slender columns and flat roof recall a classical Greek temple in modern form. Inside, the foyer is decorated with stained glass by Leonard French and large tapestries, and the reading rooms are open to anyone with a free library card.
The Treasures Gallery shows highlights of the collection, such as James Cook's Endeavour journal, maps, manuscripts and photographs, and the library also hosts temporary exhibitions. Its online service Trove gives access to millions of digitised newspapers and documents.
