What it is
The palace was the residence of Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen, who founded the graphic collection in the late 18th century; it now numbers around a million prints and some 60,000 drawings. Because works on paper are sensitive to light, they are shown in rotating exhibitions, while the Batliner Collection gives a permanent overview of modern art from Monet to Picasso. The restored Habsburg state rooms are part of the visit.
The raised terrace with its modern titanium canopy overlooks Albertinaplatz and the back of the State Opera.
Getting there by bus
Bus 2A stops at Albertinaplatz right below the terrace and at Kärntner Straße. Oper/Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4 and trams 1, 2, 62, 71 and D) is about three minutes' walk away.
The Hofburg and the Burggarten are directly behind the museum.
