What it is
Crocosaurus Cove on Mitchell Street is home to some of the largest saltwater crocodiles in captivity, along with freshwater crocodiles, turtles, fish and one of the biggest collections of Australian reptiles on display. Large glass-walled pools let you watch the crocodiles underwater, and regular feeding sessions show how powerful these animals are.
The best-known experience is the Cage of Death, a clear acrylic cage lowered into a crocodile enclosure with visitors inside. It is a convenient way to see the Top End's most famous animal without leaving the city.
Getting there by bus
The park is in the heart of the city centre. The stop Mitchell St cnr Brigg St, about 200 metres away, is served by many routes, including 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 14 and 15. Woolworths Cavenagh St, one block east, is a similar distance.
Most visitors staying in the city simply walk; Bicentennial Park and the Esplanade are a few minutes away.
