What it is
Parliament House was completed in 1994 and houses the Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory together with the Northern Territory Library. Its broad verandas and deep shade reflect the tropical climate, and the building looks out over Darwin Harbour from the edge of the escarpment.
The surrounding State Square also includes the Supreme Court, and historic Government House stands close by. Visitors can enter the public areas and the library, and guided tours are offered.
Getting there by bus
The stop Mitchell St, Hilton Hotel is about 200 metres away and is served by many routes, among them 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 14 and 15. Darwin Harry Chan Ave, a similar walk away, is another busy stop for routes across the city.
Route 14 also runs down Kitchener Drive to the Waterfront, which lies just below Parliament House.
