What it is
The centre opened in 1986 as the Gold Coast Arts Centre and was renamed HOTA as part of a long-term redevelopment. HOTA Gallery, which opened in 2021, is the largest public art gallery in Australia outside the state capitals and shows Australian and international art. The outdoor stage on the lawns hosts concerts and festivals.
The surrounding parklands along Evandale Lake have walking paths, play areas and weekend markets.
Getting there by bus
Route 731 stops at Home Of The Arts (HOTA), right at the entrance, and links the centre with Broadbeach and Southport. Routes 738 and 747 stop at Bundall Rd at City of Gold Coast, about 200 metres away.
From central Surfers Paradise the walk across the river takes around 20 minutes.
