What it is
The beach is part of an almost unbroken line of sand that runs for kilometres along the Gold Coast. Lifeguards patrol the area between the red and yellow flags, which is where visitors should swim, as currents in the open surf can be strong. Behind the dunes, the Esplanade has a beachfront promenade with showers, shade and seating.
Cavill Avenue, the pedestrian heart of Surfers Paradise, leads straight down to the sand, and beachfront markets and events are held on the foreshore.
Getting there by bus
The G:link light rail (L1) stops at Cavill Avenue station, about 300 metres from the beach, and at Surfers Paradise station a little further north. Buses 705 and 731 stop on Remembrance Drive.
The light rail runs the length of the coast between Helensvale in the north and Burleigh Heads in the south, so the beach can be reached easily from most hotels.
