What it is

The Canova casts, sent from Rome in 1818 to train Cork's art students, fill the sculpture gallery on the ground floor. Upstairs are works by Jack B. Yeats, James Barry, Harry Clarke's stained glass and a rotating programme of contemporary exhibitions. Entry is free and the café is popular for lunch.

The gallery is expected to close for a major redevelopment in the coming years; check before you go.

Getting there by bus

The gallery is on Emmet Place beside the Opera House, two minutes from Patrick Street. Every city bus stops on Patrick Street or Merchant's Quay within a short walk (Mulgrave Road and Patrick Street stops), and the bus station is seven minutes on foot.
