What it is
The market is Cork's pride and one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. Look for local specialities such as spiced beef, tripe and drisheen, Gubbeen and Durrus cheeses, and the fountain in the central hall. The café on the gallery above is a good spot for lunch overlooking the stalls.
It is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Getting there by bus
There are entrances on Grand Parade, Princes Street and Patrick Street, so every bus into the city centre stops within a minute or two (Daunt's Square, Grand Parade and Patrick Street stops). The bus station at Parnell Place is five minutes on foot.
Most of the city's sights — St Patrick's Street, the Crawford Gallery, Shandon — are within a 15-minute walk.
