What it is
The Latin Quarter is the medieval core of the city, a few narrow streets of bright painted buildings with hanging flags and bunting. By day it is shops, cafés and street performers; by night it is the pubs with live traditional music, from the famous Tigh Neachtain on the corner of Cross Street to the Quays.
Most of Galway's festivals — the Arts Festival in July, the Oyster Festival in September — spill into these streets.
Getting there by bus
The quarter is entirely pedestrian and begins two minutes from Eyre Square, where the city buses stop. At the bottom end, buses on the docks stop at Spanish Arch.
The Claddagh and the walk to Salthill start just across the Wolfe Tone Bridge.
