What it is
The church was enlarged by the merchant families in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and their tombs, carvings and a rare medieval holy-water stoup survive inside. Cromwell's troops stabled horses here in 1652 and knocked the heads off many of the statues. It belongs to the Church of Ireland and welcomes visitors most days.
The Galway Market fills the lanes around the church on Saturdays and Sundays with food, crafts and crêpes.
Getting there by bus
The church is on Lombard Street off Shop Street, five minutes' walk from Eyre Square. City buses stop around the square and on Merchants Road.
Quay Street and the Spanish Arch are a few minutes further downhill.
