What it is
Founded in 1895, the gallery holds one of the country's significant collections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art alongside Western Australian and Australian painting, decorative arts and design. The main building, a 1970s concrete design, is linked to the historic former police courts building next door.
Temporary exhibitions change through the year, and the rooftop has a terrace overlooking the Cultural Centre and the city.
Getting there by bus
Perth station is about a hundred metres away: the Airport, Ellenbrook, Fremantle, Midland and Armadale lines all stop there, and the Mandurah and Yanchep lines at the underground platforms of Perth Underground nearby.
The free Blue CAT stops on Beaufort Street at the WA Museum, at the other side of the Cultural Centre, and Perth Busport behind the station is the hub for many suburban bus routes.
