What it is
The museum covers the natural history, Aboriginal cultures and history of Western Australia, from its geology and wildlife to the people who have lived there. Among the best-known exhibits is the skeleton of a blue whale suspended in the main hall. The complex includes the old Perth Gaol of the 1850s and the former Hackett Hall library building.
The Perth Cultural Centre around it also holds the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the State Library.
Getting there by bus
The Beaufort St Museum stops are directly outside, served by the free Blue CAT (Beaufort St Wa Museum Boola Bardip) and by routes 40, 41, 42, 43, 67, 68, 950 and 980 along Beaufort Street.
Perth station is a short walk south across the Cultural Centre, so the museum is also easy to reach by train.
